My submission entry for the Penguin Cover Design Award 2022! This entry is for the Adults Non-Fiction category, where we were given the opportunity to redesign the cover for Dara ‘McAnulty's book Diary of a Young Naturalist! The book itself chronicles the turning of a year in Dara’s Northern Ireland home patch. Beginning in spring―when “the sparrows dig the moss from the guttering and the air is as puffed out as the robin’s chest―these diary entries about his connection to wildlife and the way he sees the world are vivid, evocative, and moving. My design centres around Dara’s love for bird watching and the landscapes are an adaptation of Dara’s favourite place to visit Big Dog Forest.
